There are millions who practice yoga and over 70% of those who participate in yogic exercise are women. Yoga can be useful for many women’s health issues.
Yoga is a popular and ancient form of exercise. Although yoga is often associated to be a therapeutic intervention, its safety is often questioned.
A 2015 complementary medicine research review systematically assess and meta-analyze the frequency of adverse events in randomized controlled trials of yoga.
From screening over 300 randomized controlled trials of yoga studies were assessed. Only 94 participants out of 8430 i.e. 1% experienced adverse effects due to yoga.
When comparing yoga to usual care of exercise, no significant differences were found between the frequencies of dropout and serious, non-serious, or intervention related adverse events.
This complementary medicine research by Cramer et al published in the American Journal of Epidemiology review suggests that yoga to be as safe as other exercising methods.
